Don't like camping in a coffin?
Most swags are a half-round canvas tube. You lie flat, zip yourself in, and that's your night.
The RapidPack Swag is 115 cm high down the middle. Two of you can sit inside and play cards while it rains. It feels like a tent, not a bag.
Eight kilograms
Canvas swags run 13 to 16 kg. This one is 8 kg — a one-handed carry from the car and a one-person lift onto the roof rack.
Packed it is 147 x 19 x 19 cm. About 53 litres, against roughly 230 litres for a rolled canvas swag. It goes in beside your gear instead of dominating your roof rack.
Integrated awning
On most swags you unzip the door and the rain comes in on your bed.
The RapidPack Swag opens into a covered awning. It's part of the structure, so there are no poles to fit and nothing to put up first. Rain lands on the awning floor and drains out through a mesh strip at the doorway.
Boots, packs and the dog bowl stay out of the weather. So does your bed.
Get changed inside
That headroom is why you can dress sitting on your bed instead of crawling out onto wet grass.

Why we left the mattress out
Most swags have a foam mattress rolled up inside it, which is why they pack down like a 44 gallon drum and why the mattress is still damp two nights after it rained.
We sell the mattresses separately, so you get a quarter of the bulk. Packing the mattresses separately makes it possible to transport the bedding in the car, out of the weather.
You also get a better bed. The mattress sewn into a swag is 70 mm of foam. Ours are 150 mm thick, self-inflating, with a built-in pump — and two fit side by side. Or bring your own: a queen fits, or two 730 mm singles.

We think this RapidPack tent is the easiest tent you have ever seen. We have tried to make it as idiot-proof as possible.
The waterproof bag is slightly longer than it needs to be on purpose. It is the same PVC as the floor - so if it rains on the way to your campsite your tent will be dry.
Waterproof. No seasoning.
The RapidPack Swag is made from polyester and has a waterproof rating of PU 2000 mm, which means it resists sustained rain. It is UV-resistant, and the floor is a tough 500gsm PVC.
Most swags are canvas, which requires setting it up on the lawn and hosing it down for two days before your first trip. Straight out of the bag, straight into the weather.
Quality Construction
Most swags are made from canvas, which is a weave - not a fibre. They typically use 30% cotton, and 70% polyester. RapidPack tents are 100% polyester.
Walls: 300D Oxford-weave polyester in a hex pattern, PU 2000 mm, UV-resistant.
Floor: 500gsm PVC, with a 50 mm mesh drainage strip at the doorway.
Fly screen: Heavy Duty GSM 70. Fine enough to stop midges, heavy enough to survive a boot.
Carry bag: the same PVC as the floor.
It stands up on its own
It holds its shape unpegged, which matters on rock, gravel, sand and camp pads where pegs are useless. Pegs and guy ropes are included for when the wind gets up.
A window at your head
Breeze flows through the swag. Less condensation on a cold night, liveable on a warm one, without opening the door to the mosquitoes.
What's in the bag
The swag, pegs, guy ropes, and rods that keep the floor taut. An optional groundsheet protects the floor from mud and abrasion. It adds no freight to your order.

FAQ
Can you really sit up in it?
Yes. 115 cm at the peak, down the length of the swag. A seated adult is roughly 85 to 90 cm floor to head, so you sit up with room above you. Most swags run 80 to 100 cm at a single point — you can barely sit up and it is hard to get dressed.
Does the rain come in when I open the door?
No. The door opens into a covered awning that is part of the structure, so there is nothing to put up first. A mesh strip in the floor at the doorway takes the water straight out instead of letting it run back under the door.
Is it really a swag if there is no mattress?
It is a swag in every way that matters: tough, waterproof, up in seconds, at ground level. The only thing we changed is that the mattress is not sewn in — which is what makes it 8 kg.
Other swags include a mattress. Why should I pay extra?
Because what they include is 70 mm of foam. Ours is 150 mm, self-inflating, with a built-in pump that fills it while you set up camp. Sewing a thin slab inside is also what makes those swags 13 to 16 kg, and why the mattress stays damp for days after one wet night.
What mattress fits?
The floor is 210 x 160 cm. That takes two standard 730 mm singles side by side, or one queen. Our 150 mm mattress is 730 x 2000 mm, so two fit with a gap in between.
It is polyester, not canvas. Is that a downgrade?
It is a different trade-off. Canvas is a weave - not a fibre. They typically use 30% cotton, and 70% polyester hence the name polycotton. Canvas breathes well and lasts decades if you look after it. It is also why a canvas swag weighs 13 to 16 kg, needs seasoning before its first trip, and stays wet for days. Ours is rated PU 2000 mm, needs no seasoning, and dries fast.
Is it really waterproof?
Yes. PU 2000 mm on the shell over a 500gsm PVC floor — that is proper sustained-rain waterproofing. There is no separate fly, so the waterproof layer is on from the second it is up.
What if it's windy?
It holds its shape unpegged, which is why it works on rock, sand and hard ground. Pegs and guy ropes are included, and we would use them if it is blowing — a light swag is a light swag.
Without a fly, will I get condensation?
Any single-skin shelter can, on a cold still night with two people inside. The window at the head end keeps air moving lengthways, which is the fix. Crack the window and the door vent and you will wake up dry.
Can I hike with it?
No. The bag is 147 cm long. This is a car-camping and touring swag — it goes in the ute, the wagon, the trailer or on the roof rack.
How hard is it to pack down?
Under a minute. It collapses the same way it opened, and the bag is cut longer than it needs to be so you are not kneeling on it.
Can I pack it away wet?
The bag is PVC, so a wet pack-down will not soak the rest of your gear on the drive home. Dry it out at the first opportunity — and unlike canvas, it dries fast.
